Lombok dan Sasak adalah dua nama yang tidak bisa dipisahkan. Lombok merupakan untuk sebutan untuk pulaunya, dan Sasak untuk menyebut suku orang Lombok. Lombok sendiri berasal dari bahasa Sasak yaitu “lombo,” yang berarti “lurus”. Sedangkan Sasak sebenarnya berasal dari kata “sak-sak” yang berarti “perahu bercadik”.
